...Celtics Fall On Their Back...

MAN!!??!!

As a Celtic fan, nothing can be more frustrating than the second loss in Game 4 in Atlanta. The C's in the regular season won 30+ more games than the Hawks. Joe Johnson was on fire, scoring 17 points in the heat of the 4th Quarter...none bigger than knocking down that three-pointer as Leon Powe hit the deck on a nice crossover dribble. This should NOT be going down this way. The Celtics are the superior team...the Hawks gained a bunch of momentum that should have been squashed when the C's were up 10 in this game. Boston has buried teams in the 3rd Quarter all season, and put the nail in the coffin in the 4th with good defense, and making their shots. Not tonight.

And speaking of making shots...HORRID performance from the free throw line for the C's. 10 for 18 from the line...8 points means the victory. Championship teams hit their free throws late...and that makes me nervous. Teams better than Atlanta won't even make the game close, especially in playoff style basketball. They abandoned KG mid 4th...Shot one too many threes in the 4th...Didn't play tight enough defense on Johnson late...Missed free throws...all things that are just ultimately upsetting.

Needless to say...sleep may not come easy for Shyne tonight.

LET'S GET IT BACK FELLAS...DAMN!

Studio Work...Looking Great!!

The homey J Boogz has been hard at work updating our studio in order to provide the quintessential work space. not only for ourselves, but for our customers as well. After taking over the lower level of the Dracut Street location, we saw the utmost potential with the space. Great layout as far as the rooms are concerned...low ceilings...but hey...can't have it all now can we?

With a bit more work, we'll be 100% complete...and churning out hits in no time!

...First Wedding Of The Season...

So I DJ'd my first wedding of 2008 in Foxboro MA yesterday. Successful? Overall, yes. Great room...Beautiful day...Awesome couple. But daytime weddings are always a challenge. We ran from 1pm-5pm, right in the heart of the best day of the year in New England. I certainly wanted to be outside...I can certainly sympathize with the guests of a wedding mid-day.

There is something about the sun being out...and I dunno...maybe white people are afraid the light from the sun will make their poor dancing more visible. It's a mystery...no real reason, I suppose people aren't ready to full-on party in the afternoon. That's why we have invented the term "pre-game" - it's obviously not "game time" if we are "pre-gaming"

It took a lil work, but in full DJ Shyne fashion...we rocked the house. Eventually people cannot deny the power of Shyne! Anyhow...just a lil rant, but all's well that end's well.

DJ Shyne Featured as SPOTLIGHT DJ for MARCH 2008!!

So I finally got the March newsletter from the C.L.U.T.C.H. DJ Network...And What Do You Know!!!?!

SPOTLIGHT DJ FOR MARCH 2008: DJ SHYNE!!

Big shout out to all at C.L.U.T.C.H. for the great work...and the overall professional look of the article.
Here is the interview...

DJ SHYNE INTERVIEW conducted by Robert Cooper

1) Your bio said that you were heavily influenced by the movie Juice. In your opinion, what is the best movie about DJ's?

Right now...I'd say THE best movie on the art of DJ'ing is the documentary SCRATCH by Doug Pray. The film covers all the intimate details of my craft, covering the inception of the scratch, to record-digging, to the natural progression from DJ'ing to Producing. The film features pioneers and legends, as well as those in the battle scene - new cats breathing life into the art. Bambaattaa to Premier to Q-Bert to Rob Swift back to DXT forward to DJ Craze. It's a ridiculously thorough investigation into what I call my work. It's got everything short of a segment on your boy Shyne.

Don't get me wrong...Juice played a huge role into getting me interested in what I do...but as I grew technically sound, I realized that Omar Epps wasn't really DJ'ing in the film. But at the time...I just fell in love with the scene where Epps and his crew hit the record store, stashing the 12" inside a newspaper and later locking himself in his bedroom to record the demo for the DJ competition. That was me for my first 2 years of DJing! Very parallel.

2) In the early 90's, rap artist and groups such as Ed O.G. and the Bulldogs, House of Pain, The Almighty RSO, and Made Men put Boston on the map, what is the hip-hop landscape like there now?

Ed O.G. is still influential to me, and to all of Boston's true MCs. No doubt about that. But currently, the situation is looking limitless for the MA. I'm specifically from Lawrence MA...and there are some names making real serious moves who call Law-Town home. My man Termanology from the ST. Squad is releasing banger after banger and creating a substantial buzz. DJ Statik Selektah put out his record this past year...another L-Town representative. Reks, a Lawrencian out in Miami, is beginning to really break out.

Shout out to Reks. Back in the Bean...I just got hold of Sev-One's mixtape that is bananas. Co-Signs from Clinton Sparks, Drama, Big Mike, Kay Slay! Sev is serious. My man Akrobatik just dropped heat as expected. Features from Kweli, Little Brother...Production from Dilla, 9th Wonder, Da Beatminerz! I mean, I'm feeling good about Boston's status in the game. This has been a solid new millennium for Boston artists. And be on the look out for my E.C.F. MCs Reality, The Perfectionist, & Swfit to make a big splash.. HAHA... Small shameless plug.

3) On your website, you give praise to the rock band Radiohead for selling their album on their website independently and allowing the fans to choose the price they want to pay. Is that something that you will consider in the future?

The things about the Radiohead experiment that made the project successful - the reasons why they made money from this venture...I can't find those same convictions in the Hip Hop game. Urban and Pop genres are dominated by the SINGLE. Nobody wants to cop full albums anymore...fans want to get that hit with Timbo on the beat...and ignore the rest of the album "fillers." Radiohead has such an established fan base. A devoted fan base. A fan base I can't really find in the Hip Hop game.

A solid fan base in combination with extremely high anticipation would be the right formula for any Hip Hop star to make the same experiment work for them. Dre's Detox? Maybe. That might make the fans go and cop the digital album for something more than Free. It's a GREAT concept. Very influential. It's time the current business model in the Music Industry get flipped, and I think Radiohead began thinking outside of the box EARLY. Majors should be afraid...VERY AFRAID.

4) Also on your site you talk about how digital sales are increasing as cd sales are declining. Would you say that we are witnessing the death of the cd and record stores?

I thought vinyl was supposed to be dead too...but I still see the 12" bins at my local record spot. On the topic, I suppose this is the beginning of the end for the CD. I think fans...REAL FANS...will always want a way to access something that provides a "bonus" for copping the physical product. Whether it be the crazy design on the 12" sleeve...or the liner notes on the inside of the disc's insert...I think real fans appreciate that stuff. With that said, aritsts and labels need to work on building more of a demand for that sort of thing. Shouts to ?uestlove of the almighty Roots crew. With The Roots' double greatest hits album a few years back...there was some good reading in them liner notes.

If 50 Cent wrote some cool sh*t in his liner notes, I'm thinking he may reach a few more CD buyers than ?uestlove. But, you know...its the age of instant gratification and short attention spans. Bad combo. I like making an afternoon out of record and CD shopping. I like to get grub, be with my people...and just thumb through the vinyl for the entire day. It's a form of meditation for me. It's like nothing is going on around me. Just me and the dusty records.

5) You wrote about the Roger Clemens issue on your blog. After the senate hearing, and accusations of perjury what are thoughts on that now?

RO-GER!! RO-GER!! I can hear the Fenway faithful just chewing up that dude if he was ever to pitch here again. My man is doomed. I think he has made himself believe he is telling the truth. I'll bet his lawyers, who are getting paid out-of-this-world types of money, are smart guys and breaking it down as-is to Roger. I just think he's not having any of it, and doing what he needs to do to save his own self. He has always been a selfish guy. He has always had excuses. He has always been a damn good pitcher though. So when that is the case, eyes get closed, heads turn away...and its like..."we'll deal with it if he wins." But for real...Clemens is TOAST in my *expert* opinion... HA! Just keepin' it real people.

Going....Going...Gone! Well...Kinda

The bidding on the MPC 2000 is - for the time being - over. Due to some peripheral additions to the studio, we are looking at holding on to it for a minute. In combination with the fact we didn't get the sale we were looking for (came close, but no cigar) and with some freebie add-ons...I'll get back to you all on this front later.

MPC 2000 FOR SALE!

Anyone looking to get in the MPC game? I've got a great MPC 2000 for sale. Used in a non-smoking environment. It has no blemishes, and has never travelled without proper casing and protection. Fully functional, and perfect for someone looking to get into beat sequencing/creation and can't splurge $1000 on a new item. Check the flier above for all contact info

DAMN...OUT OF COMMISSION FOR A BIT!

I'm struggling here people!!

Before I left for Vegas, I had some signal output problems with one 1200. Seemingly the white end of the RCA's was shot...or possible tone arm contacts were worn and old. And of course, I've already put a new tone arm on one of my decks about a yr ago...and can't remember which one it is! I left it with Boogz, who is a lil more technical and mechanical than I, and it just seemed too "dangerous" to fuck with. So upon my return, I got it over to High Tech Electronics, and it's still there.

THEN...AS DUMB LUCK WOULD HAVE IT!
I had a gig the night I returned from my Vegas trip, and as I was breaking down the studio to pack my mixer...I accidentally ripped the grounding fork right off the other turntable! Not that this damage is in need of major repair, I believe it is something I can do myself...but nonetheless...PAIN IN THE ASS.

So I'm a DJ. Down not one, but TWO turntables...but a fully functional mixer! WTF!!
Luckily Boogz has had my back for the last few gigs supplying his 1200's as back up. But if we have to be at two places at the same time...I'll probably be calling you to borrow whatever piece of shit turntable your mom and pop still have running in the living room.

REAL 2008 Resolutions/Considerations...

Here are some true, easy to keep resolutions/considerations for the new year. Pick one, two, or as many as you can to try and stay focused on yourself, and others throughout 2008.

ENJOY!!

1) Take time to walk. Take time to walk with a smile. There would be no need for all these anti-depressants if we took 20 mins/day to do so.

2) Meditate. In complete silence. 10 minutes/day

3) Get sleep. At least 7 hours/day

4) Wake with a goal. Ask yourself, "Today...my purpose is (blank)"

5) Live with the 3 E's: Energy, Enthusiasm & Empathy

6) Watch more movies, play more games & read more books this year more than last

7) Prayer is not all bad. Who ever you pray to...make sure to do so. It will provide fuel for a busy life

8) Spend more of your time with elders....spend more of your time with children

9) Daydream more

10) Eat more plants...less food made in plants

11) Drink green tea. Drink plenty of water daily.

12) Make 3 people smile every day

13) Clear your physical space of clutter. Let new and flowing energy into your life

14) Don't waste time on gossip, past problems, negative thoughts...and more things out of your control. We can only control things that are in front of us.

15) Life is similar to school. Learn new things. Problems are simply exams or tests that come and go, just like those from Algebra or Physics

16) Smile and laugh more

17) Life isn't always fair...but it is still pretty damn good.

18) Hate less. Hate is one of the most wasteful emotions

19) Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does

20) Arguements are made to win and lose. Agree to disagree

21) Make peace with your past. It interferes too much with your present

22) Compare your life less with others. Our lives journey's are just too different

23) Use the good china, burn the "decorative" candles...today. Everyday is a special occassion

24) No one controls your happiness, other than yourself

25) Consider each "disaster" with this question, "In 5 yrs, will this matter"

26) Forgive more

27) Ignore what others think of you. One, you cannot control it. Two, it has no bearing on how you should continue to live

28) Allow more time to heal.

29) Remember that no matter how good or bad a situation is...it WILL change

30) Jobs and businesses do not care for you when you are sick. Friends and family do. Keep connected more

31) Rid yourself of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful

32) Remember, the best is yet to come

33) Do the right thing...as frequently as possible

34) Remember to enjoy the ride of life.

2008 Shaping Up To Be CRAZYNUTS!

Yes...

CrazyNuts.

E.C.F. is staying the course coming into the new year. Looking at real big things that lie ahead.

As mentioned, we got placed on the Underground Railroad Mixtape...and are going to be throwing a HUGE fiesta in celebration.

Landing new DJ gigs in the heart of Boston...adding a Thursday night, and throwing in another Friday night. Being in the city means a whole helluva lot - to me at least...but to any performer. I've missed being in the scene since graduating from NEU, and moving out of the city.

I'm pumped about the Thursday @ the 33 Lounge! The place is OFF THE HOOK. Walls changing color all around you...neon greens, purples & reds. Dance music upstairs...all sorts of house, techno & various electronica. DJ Shyne, though, will be setting up shop DOWNSTAIRS. As you descend the stairs, a plethora of colors hit you. The walls provide a bright enough light to watch your steps, but bright to the point that all you see is dark at the bottom. Turn to the right, and you'll find the main entrance to the Hip Hop room.

The Hip Hop room keeps the same color schematics as the upstairs - neon all around the bar. The DJ Booth is tucked to the left, and the room is L shaped. Subwoofers all around the room, with high quality two-way speakers hidden in the ceiling. A mesh material acts as a camouflage to the speakers above, but at close look you can see the Mackie's thumping. The DJ who was there upon my first visit played everything I would play - for the most part - however I must admit, and boast - my skill level is significantly higher. That's essentially how I broke it down to the promoters. Same tunes, Better DJ...Let's just worry about getting people through the doors.

The 33 Lounge is GORGEOUS...no doubt about it. There is no reason why you shouldn't come out to party. Oh. Forgot to mention. There is NO COVER! This is the first promoter I've worked for in a LONG time who makes it this easy. Just get on the Boston V.I.P guestlist (bostonviplist@gmail.com)

We are also looking at establishing an additional Friday night at either Aria or Mantra...both SUPERCLUBS in their own right. Aria is immediately recognizable as one of THE top spots in the city. Mantra is GREAT! I visited Mighty Mystic there for his BDay party a while back...and loved it. Stay tuned.

E.C.F. Productions as also getting into the studio EARLY!

We've got Reality's album we are looking at starting, look for a 2nd quarter release on that.

Mad Bwoy's album is looking to get a jump start as well, and E.C.F. is going to help in more ways than one...so we are hoping Summer time on that...but maybe earlier depending on other situations.

D'Arryval is going to be recording two of our new riddims over the next month.

Hamel has joined the camp, adding a soulful - sample laden aspect to our production team.

J Boogz & myself are getting the tracks together for the ULTIMATE party mixtape...the Just Bump It series. Volume 3 coming in the 1st quarter.

I've written a shit ton today.

Chew on that.

PEACE

The UnderGround Railroad Vol. 11 ~ CONTEST WINNERS!

So I get emails periodically from a crew outta NY called Triple F Unlimited. They were running a contest looking for unsigned heat from across the nation...the globe I would be lead to believe. I decided to submit tracks from various artists E.C.F. represents...either as family, or in good faith. After hearing back from Triple F, that not only did we win a spot on the UNDERGROUND RAILROAD VOL. 11 Mix CD, we actually grabbed TWO spots!!

1) Reality ft. The Perfectionsist & Heather May - "Let Me See"
Produced by E.C.F. Productions

2) The Perfectionist - "Eh Mambo"
Produced by Perfectly Dirty

Two absolute bangers...and two tracks we couldn't be more proud of. I want to send a personal congrats to both of my dudes for doing the damn thing...and SHIT!! Shout out to Heather May who just killed the hook.

You can find both tracks on our MySpace (www.myspace.com/ecfent)

RO-GER...RO-GER

This Roger Clemens shit is NUTS to me. I don't know what I believe. Oh! Just to mention...I may be using this space to relate to ya'll on a music tip...but I am a HUGE sports fan. Always have been...always will be. Born and raised near Boston has meant that it is important that I follow. I do.

The 60 minutes interview with Old Man Wallace was yesterday...and his press conference today, leave me wondering what to believe. At first, after learning his name was on the Mitchell report, I had already assumed all the names on the list were guilty. Knowing that people like Brian McNamee would find themselves in jail for lying...made it hard to put the accused in a favorable light. I thought Clemens was toast. Notice too, that he seems to be the only one fighting back. Everyone else has fallen into the night, either accepting the fact they got caught...or....accepting the fact they got caught!! Shit...there is lil left to figure out there. If it was me, and I was innocent...I fight back. Point blank.

So, either Clemens is telling the truth, and all the nay-sayers will end up opening wide to insert both feet into their mouths. OR...he is bullshitting us all. Purely banking on us (the general public) never finding out any real truth. I figure...a positive drug test, pictures of a needle hanging out of his ass...and some video or audio that captures an overt appearance of guilt will seal Clemens' fate. Outside of those three things...what else? Really nothing. Which means dude can fight this hard...HARD...and its he-say vs. he-say.

The 15 minute phone call recorded between Brian and Roger was NUTS. It didn't put Brian in any positive light. Why didn't, when Clemens said he was telling the truth, was looking for the truth, was further highlighting he didn't use drugs...didn't MacNamee say something?? I would have been like...

Shyne as McNamee: "Dude! Are you SHITTING me? I injected a 2 inch needle in your ass LOADED with the juice. I feel bad for you, your family, and for acting
deceitful...but it was either jail, or the truth...and you and I both know
the truth."

Clemens: "The truth....YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!

Sorry, I seemed to have got caught up there...the response may not have gone down exactly that way, but that's how I would have kicked it to him. It seems like Clemens truly furthered McNamee's career...and I too would be loyal. But I am not placing my tender, white ass on a silver platter for all the jail birds to do with what they desire...I'm saving myself first and foremost.

I think that disagrees with Cam'ron's school of thought on his 60 minute interview about not snitching. Which by the way...set Hip Hop back about 20 years.

Ah shit...I'm tired...and want to see what happens with the lawsuit. SportsCenter just ran the stats on a public poll that 2/3 of people still believe McNamee.

What the fuck do polls know?

ONE

Here It Is...A Groove...

What is CRACKING!

This space here is where I am going to take the opportunity to just write freely. There are too many scenarios in daily life that restrict...that prohibit the free-flow of words, thoughts & ideas...and after finding, reading (and at times laughing) many blogs on here, I thought WHY THE FUCK NOT?!?

I am Founder, and CEO, of E.C.F. Entertainment. A grassroots entertainment company which started as supplying DJs for all types of parties (clubs, weddings, semi-formals). We've worked hard to expand our services to include providing artists with a fully functional recording studio...developing and producing our own music...signing talent...as well as countless things we do but can't quite label.

DJing is the passion. No way around that shit.

Much love to those who have supported us, and stuck by us. We couldn't have done anything we do if it wasn't for all of you.

Short and Sweet.
